They are used as protective equipment mounted onto pipes where there is a risk of accidental detonation. These specific flame arresters prevent detonation effect by suppressing the accidental flame and protecting adjacent installations' components that do not stand explosion-generated high pressure. In-line antiknock flame arresters are accordingly designed and tested so they can match the real-life conditions of occurrence and run of detonation phenomenon.
Supplementary temperature transducers (sensors) are used that timely detect temperature increase due to flame initiation or continual progress. In this way, safe protection is assured against steady short-time flame occurrence.
PROTEGO, together with prestigious scientific institutions, has developed a complete range of equipment that fit in any hazardous explosion exposed area, thus assuring protection against steady- or unstable, uni - or bidirectionally propagation of detonations. According to pertinent conformity declarations, compliance with the ATEX and PED norms, as well as with other international standards, has been successfully certified.
Flame arresters diversity consists in the variety of design types, connection dimensions and involved materials. So, there is always a possibility to offer specific, customised solutions, even where the particular application requirements go beyond the performances of standard models.
Selection criteria of in-line antiknock flame arresters are as follow.
- Detonation type: steady or unstable.
- Working fluid: dry-type flame arresters (for gas or vapour pipes) or flame arresters for liquids.
- Operation conditions: working fluid flow rate, pressure and temperature.
- Explosion proof classification, as a function of the working fluid.
- Location conditions: pipe diameter, ambient temperature, etc.
The special design types, which offer either unidirectional - or bidirectional protection, are destined for critical fluids (crystallise-prone - or polymerise-prone fluids).
The in-line explosion-proof (anti deflagrant) flame arresters assure protection to following industrial installations and plants.
- Pipe networks
- Tanks and containers in chemistry -, petrochemistry - and pharmaceutical industry.
- Gas collection systems
- Residue substances treatment systems.
