The company was set up in 1880, when a small repair-workshop for agricultural tools was inaugurated in the German town of RUHSTORF. In 1904, together with his son, Mathias HATZ – the company's founder – built the first engine of the HATZ series.

 Diesel engines in the 2 ÷ 50 HP range
As common rule, the HATZ engines have the following essential features:
- low fuel (Diesel oil) consumption,
- long operating service (long life),
- reliability; the engines are made in such a way as to attain the highest possible efficiency under most severe climatic environment, the reliable air cooling system being an important factor for this performance; easy start-up and run-up of these engines, even at extremely low temperatures, are renowned world-wide;
- robustness and indestructible structure;
- versatility and easiness; the compact design of these engines make it easy to install them and start work; that means they can be used in a large variety of industrial fields;
- ecological; for years, HATZ has been the pioneer in developing Diesel engines that "take care" of the ambient area (environmental friendly), and in the "war against chemical and sound pollution" HATZ is reckoned to have won.

Power generators
By continuing its long tradition of steady development and diversification of products, HATZ has also lately started the production of electrical generators. The production series of electric stationary power generators spans between 2.2 kVA and 35-40 kVA, both as single-phase and three-phase units. These generators are propelled by HATZ Diesel engines, which give them high reliability during operation. |
